cross-picking
Alternate string technique
Cross-picking is a guitar technique where the pick alternates between non-adjacent strings, crossing over one or more strings to create a flowing, arpeggiated sound.
Common in bluegrass and country music, it produces a harp-like effect distinct from standard alternate picking: His cross-picking on the mandolin gave the tune its rolling quality.
