coming up snake eyes
Losing at craps
Coming up snake eyes means getting the worst possible outcome, from the dice roll in craps where both dice show ones—the lowest total and an automatic loss.
The phrase applies to any situation where luck fails completely or results disappoint: I've been coming up snake eyes on job interviews all month.
Sometimes shortened to just snake eyes.
