come up snake eyes
Worst possible roll
To come up snake eyes is to get the worst possible outcome, from the dice game craps where rolling two ones (each die showing a single pip, like a snake's eye) is the lowest roll.
The phrase extends to any situation where luck fails completely: We invested everything and came up snake eyes.
