Charterers are those who hire vessels, aircraft, or vehicles for temporary use.
A charterer might rent an entire ship to transport cargo, or book a plane for a private flight.
The term appears most often in maritime and aviation contexts: The charterers were responsible for fuel costs during the voyage.
In legal and commercial usage, the charterer contracts with the owner but doesn't take ownership of the vessel.
