casual smoker
Sometimes lights up
A casual smoker is someone who smokes cigarettes or other tobacco products occasionally rather than habitually—at parties, with drinks, or in social settings.
The term often implies someone who doesn't consider themselves a "real" smoker or who believes they could quit easily: I'm just a casual smoker, maybe a few cigarettes on weekends.
The distinction from regular smoker is fuzzy and sometimes self-deceiving.
