bugged out

Left in haste

Bugged out describes eyes wide with shock, fear, or disbelief—bulging as if about to pop from the head: His eyes bugged out when he saw the bill.

It also means left hastily, especially to flee danger or abandon a position: We bugged out before the cops showed up.

In military slang, bugging out is a rapid, sometimes panicked retreat.
