bend the knee

Yield to authority

To bend the knee is to kneel in submission or allegiance, whether literally before a monarch or figuratively before any authority.

The phrase gained wide currency through *Game of Thrones*, where characters demanded others bend the knee to acknowledge their rule.

Now used broadly for any capitulation: I refuse to bend the knee to corporate interests.

Sometimes shortened to just bend the knee as a command.
