bar joke

Tavern-set comedy

A bar joke is a style of joke that begins with one or more characters entering a bar, typically opening with "A [person/animal/thing] walks into a bar..." The setup creates a familiar frame that signals humor is coming, while the punchline exploits wordplay, absurdity, or subverted expectations: A man walks into a bar. Ouch.

A priest, a rabbi, and a minister walk into a bar. The bartender says, "What is this, some kind of joke?"
