bald-faced hornets
White-marked stinging insects
Bald-faced hornets are large black-and-white stinging insects that build papery nests, often in trees or on building eaves.
Despite the name, they're actually yellowjackets, not true hornets.
They're aggressive when their nest is threatened: We had to call an exterminator for the bald-faced hornets in the shed.
