autumn olive
Silver-leafed invasive plant
Autumn olive is a shrub native to Asia, introduced to North America for erosion control and wildlife habitat.
It produces small, speckled red berries in fall that are tart and edible, sometimes used in jams or sauces.
The plant is now considered invasive in much of the eastern United States, aggressively colonizing disturbed land and outcompeting native species.
