Hoyas
D.C. university team
Hoyas is the nickname for the athletic teams of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
The term likely derives from a student cheer mixing Greek and Latin: "Hoya Saxa" (roughly "what rocks").
Georgetown's basketball program, particularly prominent in the 1980s under coach John Thompson, made the name nationally recognizable: The Hoyas are in the tournament again.
