Fringe Festival
Avant-garde performance gathering
A Fringe Festival is an arts festival, typically featuring theater, comedy, dance, and other performing arts, that operates on an open-access model where artists self-select rather than being curated by organizers.
The concept originated with the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 1947, when uninvited performers staged shows on the "fringe" of the official Edinburgh International Festival.
Today hundreds of cities host their own fringe festivals, emphasizing experimental, unconventional, or emerging work.
We saw three plays at the Fringe Festival this weekend.
