American Midwest

Great Plains region

The American Midwest is the north-central region of the United States, roughly stretching from Ohio to the Dakotas and from Minnesota to Kansas.

The region is associated with farming, manufacturing, and a culture considered traditional, practical, and unpretentious: Midwestern values, Midwestern hospitality.

The boundaries are imprecise—some include states others exclude.

Also called the Midwest or the heartland.
