Alice band
Rigid hair accessory
An Alice band is a horseshoe-shaped headband that holds hair back from the face, curving over the top of the head from ear to ear.
The term comes from John Tenniel's illustrations of Alice in *Alice's Adventures in Wonderland*, where she wears such a band.
More common in British than American English: She pushed her hair back with a velvet Alice band.
