unfrocked
Stripped of vestments
Unfrocked describes a priest or minister who has been formally stripped of their religious office and authority.
The defrocking is typically punishment for serious misconduct: The bishop was unfrocked after the scandal.
The term extends to anyone dramatically removed from a position of trust or authority: an unfrocked politician, an unfrocked academic.
