subbed out
Taken off field
Subbed out means substituted or replaced, typically temporarily.
In sports, a player who gets subbed out leaves the game while another takes their place: Coach subbed him out in the fourth quarter.
In work contexts, it means delegating to someone else: We subbed out the electrical work to a contractor.
The opposite is subbed in.
