social column

A social column is a newspaper or magazine feature reporting on the activities, gatherings, and personal lives of notable people—parties attended, engagements announced, visitors received.

Once a staple of local papers tracking a community's prominent families, social columns have largely given way to celebrity gossip coverage: Her name appeared regularly in the social column.
