skipped step
Bypassed part midway
A skipped step is a stage in a process or sequence that was passed over, whether intentionally or by mistake.
In instructions or explanations, a skipped step often causes confusion: I couldn't follow the recipe—there must be a skipped step somewhere.
In arguments or reasoning, a skipped step is a logical gap where something was assumed rather than demonstrated.
