singles matches
Individual versus individual contests
Singles matches are competitive contests between two individual players rather than teams or pairs.
The term appears most often in tennis, badminton, and wrestling, where it distinguishes one-on-one play from doubles: She won all three of her singles matches this season.
In professional wrestling, a singles match features two wrestlers without tag team partners.
