silver certificates
Redeemable paper money
Silver certificates were a type of paper currency issued by the United States government from 1878 to 1964, redeemable for their face value in silver coin or bullion.
They circulated alongside other forms of currency but lost their convertibility to silver in 1968.
Today they remain legal tender at face value but are worth more to collectors than their denomination suggests.
