plague-ridden
Overrun with epidemic
Plague-ridden describes a place or population afflicted by plague or pestilence.
The term applies literally to regions suffering epidemic disease: plague-ridden medieval villages.
More often it's used figuratively for places overrun with something undesirable: a plague-ridden bureaucracy, plague-ridden slums.
The -ridden suffix suggests being overwhelmed or dominated by the affliction.
