overdecorating

Overdecorating is adding too many decorative elements, resulting in a cluttered or excessive appearance.

The term applies to interior design, holiday displays, or any space where embellishment crowds out simplicity: The living room suffered from years of overdecorating—every surface covered with figurines and fake flowers.

The line between decorating and overdecorating is subjective but generally recognized when visual noise overwhelms the eye.
