notorious criminals
Well-known felons
Notorious criminals are lawbreakers whose offenses have made them widely known and talked about.
The phrase emphasizes infamy—these aren't just criminals but ones whose names the public recognizes: Al Capone and John Dillinger remain among America's most notorious criminals.
The notoriety often outlasts the crimes themselves.
