misprioritize

Order things badly

To misprioritize is to assign the wrong level of importance to something—putting minor tasks ahead of urgent ones, or focusing on the wrong concerns entirely.

The word implies a failure of judgment about what matters most: We misprioritized features and shipped a product nobody wanted.

Often used in retrospective criticism of decisions.
