linguistic isolation
No shared tongue
Linguistic isolation describes a situation where a language or its speakers have little or no contact with other languages, often due to geographic barriers or social separation.
An isolated language develops independently, without borrowing or influence from neighbors.
The term also applies to individuals or communities cut off from speakers of their native tongue: The immigrant grandmother lived in linguistic isolation, rarely hearing her first language.
