late to the party
Behind the curve
Late to the party describes arriving after others have already begun—literally at a gathering, but more often figuratively.
Someone late to the party discovers or adopts something well after it became popular or widely known: I know I'm late to the party, but I just started watching that show.
It can also mean missing the optimal moment for action: By the time regulators responded, they were late to the party.
