hypermetamorphosis
Multiple larval form changes
Hypermetamorphosis is a type of insect development in which larvae pass through multiple distinctly different forms before reaching adulthood, rather than the typical progression of similar-looking larval stages.
Blister beetles and some parasitic wasps undergo hypermetamorphosis—their first larval stage may be active and mobile, while later stages are grub-like and sedentary.
The term also appears in psychiatry for an excessive tendency to attend to and react to every stimulus, sometimes seen in certain brain injuries.
