horror cinema
Frightening film genre
Horror cinema is the film genre devoted to frightening, disturbing, or unsettling audiences through supernatural threats, violence, psychological terror, or grotesque imagery.
The genre encompasses everything from gothic monster films and slasher movies to psychological thrillers and body horror.
Horror cinema trades on primal fears—death, the unknown, loss of control—and often reflects broader cultural anxieties of its era.
We marathoned classic horror cinema all October.
