finish line photos
Sprint ending captures
Finish line photos are images captured at the exact moment competitors cross the finish line in a race, used to determine placement when results are too close to call.
The technology uses a narrow-slit camera that continuously records a single vertical line, creating a composite image where time runs horizontally: The finish line photo showed she won by a hundredth of a second.
Also called photo finishes.
