damp-dry

Ready for ironing

Damp-dry describes laundry that has been partially dried—no longer soaking wet but still noticeably moist.

The term appears in instructions for ironing, where fabric presses more smoothly when damp-dry rather than fully dried: Iron the shirt while it's still damp-dry.

As a verb, to damp-dry is to dry something only partway.
