cloud up

Sky turns hazy

Cloud up describes the sky becoming overcast—clouds gathering where there were few or none: It's starting to cloud up; we should head back.

The phrase also applies to surfaces becoming hazy or opaque: The bathroom mirror clouded up from the steam.

Figuratively, a face or expression clouds up when it shifts toward anger or sadness: Her face clouded up when I mentioned the divorce.
