Backyard drying rope
A clothes line is a rope or wire stretched between two points for hanging laundry to dry outdoors: She hung the sheets on the clothes line.
Also spelled as one word: clothesline.
As a verb, to clothesline someone is to strike them across the neck or chest with an outstretched arm, knocking them down—named for the similarity to running into a taut line.
