blue sky thinking
Unconstrained creative brainstorming
Blue sky thinking is brainstorming without practical constraints—imagining possibilities as if limitations didn't exist.
The phrase evokes an open, cloudless sky with no obstacles in sight.
It's corporate jargon for creative sessions where feasibility concerns are temporarily set aside: Let's do some blue sky thinking before we worry about the budget.
