anti-life

Against existence itself

Anti-life describes attitudes, policies, or forces opposed to the flourishing of living things.

The term appears in debates about abortion and euthanasia, where opponents of "pro-life" positions flip the framing: They call themselves pro-life, but their policies are anti-life.

More broadly, anti-life characterizes anything hostile to vitality, growth, or biological existence: The planet's anti-life conditions made colonization impossible.
