Sergei Prokofiev
Sergei Prokofiev (1891–1953) was a Russian composer and pianist, one of the twentieth century's most significant figures in classical music.
His work spans ballet (Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella), opera (The Love for Three Oranges), symphonies, and the children's orchestral piece Peter and the Wolf.
His style combined modernist dissonance with lyrical melody and driving rhythm.
He left Russia after the Revolution, returned in 1936, and later faced Soviet censure for "formalism."
