Ra's al Ghul

Ra's al Ghul is a supervillain in DC Comics, primarily an antagonist of Batman.

The name is Arabic for "head of the demon." He leads the League of Assassins and seeks to purge humanity through ecological terrorism, believing civilization has corrupted the earth.

Ra's has lived for centuries using the regenerative Lazarus Pits, and he considers Batman a worthy successor—often addressing him as "Detective." The character has appeared in various Batman adaptations, most notably in Christopher Nolan's *The Dark Knight Rises*.
