Messi vs Ronaldo
Greatest player debate
Messi vs Ronaldo refers to the long-running debate over which footballer—Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo—is the greatest of their generation or of all time.
The rivalry dominated football discourse from roughly 2008 to 2020, when both played in Spain's La Liga.
The phrase now serves as shorthand for any passionate but ultimately unresolvable argument between two elite options: Asking me to choose a favorite child is my Messi vs Ronaldo.
