F-test

Ratio of variances

An F-test is a statistical test that compares variances to determine whether groups differ significantly.

Named for the F-distribution it uses, the test appears throughout statistical analysis—in ANOVA to compare group means, in regression to assess model fit, and when checking whether two samples have equal variance.

The F-test showed the treatment groups differed significantly.
