thankfully
Luckily for us
Thankfully is an adverb with two distinct uses.
The older sense means in a manner expressing gratitude: She thankfully accepted the gift.
The more common modern use is as a sentence adverb expressing relief or satisfaction about a situation: Thankfully, no one was injured in the crash.
This second use, parallel to fortunately or mercifully, once drew criticism from usage purists but is now standard.
