busted up

Wrecked beyond repair

Busted up describes something broken or damaged, often severely: The car was all busted up after the accident.

It also applies to people who are physically injured or emotionally distraught: He came home busted up from the fight, She was busted up about the divorce.

The phrase is informal and emphatic, suggesting more damage than plain "broken."
