Since 2001, IDEA and Michael Douma have been engaged with a project called New Internet Exhibits to Teach Science and Art. With financial support from the U.S. Department of Education’s fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education, and with the assistance of Michael Henchman of Brandeis University, the team at IDEA has been designing online exhibits, teaching classes, and lecturing to audiences about the fascinating convergence of science and art. Professionals and students have shown unbridled enthusiasm for IDEA’s innovative, pedagogical approach.

As part of its mandate to bring new and innovative ideas to the public, IDEA has collaborated with the Diatrope Institute, an organization committed to promoting research and instruction in visual studies. IDEA now provides promotional and communication infrastructure support for Diatrope’s Art & Science Discussion group - thereby aiding in the dissemination of information pertaining to research interests, scientific discovery, and opportunities to share new ideas.

The IDEA team has also shared its expertise with several national and international television productions, including the BBC’s Vinland Map, NOVA’s Vinland Map, and the History Channel.
