IDEA welcomes new collaborations with organizations, institutions, and individuals who are interested in using technology to convey educational information to the public in new ways. Here are a few highlights of interesting projects IDEA has helped with:
Trellis navigation
For his Master’s Thesis at the University of Auburn Industrial Design, Michael Felix developed Trellis, which builds on blogging as a method of managing the process of idea development and spurring creativity. When he needed a method for visualizing Trellis’ growing knowledgebase, IDEA supplied him with a beta version of SpicyNodes, the organization’s innovative radial mapping application.
Vincent van Gogh
IDEA provided translations of selected letters from IDEA’s "Van Gogh’s Letters" WebExhibit to Victoria Charles, author of Vincent van Gogh (2008, Parkstone Press Ltd., ISBN 978-1844844791). You can view excepts of that book, courtesy of the publisher, in our van Gogh’s letters exhibit, at LINK.
Diatrope Science and Art
Since 2003, IDEA has sponsored and managed the email list for the Diatrope Institute’s Art & Science Discussion, which is directed by Amy Ione. Subscribers to the list discuss new frontiers in the interrelations among art, science, technology, and visual studies.
Vinland Map
IDEA collaborator Michael Henchman shared expertise from the Vinland Map WebExhibit, which explores whether or not the Map proved that Vikings came to America, with producer Gary Glassman on NOVA’s episode, "The Viking Deception.” IDEA also provided images for the television program.
Journal of Interaction Recipes Journal
IDEA’s continues to collaborate with experts from a variety of fields to develop and expand the organization’s Journal of Interaction Recipes Journal.
