Filling the Gap
As people consume vast amounts of information through ever-newer communication technologies, some of the most important issues facing our society are getting short shrift. At IDEA, we believe a well-informed society should not rely solely on alarmist news media, a fragmenting publishing industry, aggregating bloggers, and a commercialized educational sector. At the same time, we know that the public gets its information through multiple channels, and reaching the public requires a multifaceted approach.
IDEA helps fill the gap by pinpointing and developing technologies that promote deceleration and contemplation and provide learning spaces for in-depth exploration, while incorporating the best practices of museums, publishers, software developers, and research labs to deliver a variety of programs via the web and mobile devices that are free to the public or very inexpensive.
Forward-Thinking. Results-Driven.
IDEA strives to enhance the very ways people think and learn, both within and outside of the realm of formal education. IDEA’s projects and programs spur learners of all ages to follow their curiosity and apply critical thinking skills to virtually any topic, while meeting learners where they are – increasingly, on the Internet and mobile devices.
IDEA’s ongoing research and development push the envelope of human-technology interaction in order to support learning. With the proper tools to access and manipulate information, people can make better, faster, more informed decisions. Many of the organization’s projects have grown out of IDEA’s research into creating virtual interaction that mimics real-world experiences.
